What's going to happen?
I will ask you to imagine some pleasant scenes, while I talk about how to use your own mental abilities more effectively. You can always refuse to do anything that you don't want to do, and you can always come out of the experience yourself if you choose to. You are always in total control.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Most of us experience changes in our conscious awareness many times a day without realising it. Whenever you just let your imagination wander and allow yourself to be taken away by your thoughts or feelings, you are experiencing a form of trance. Hypnosis helps you focus and define these changes in consciousness, where you are able to receive positive change suggestions without argument or doubt.
Is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is not an altered state of consciousness (as sleep is, for example), but an altered experience of consciousness. Suggestions are given to the subconscious mind often through the use of the imagination, and anything that can be imagined can also be un-imagined!
Can I use hypnosis to stop smoking and for weigh loss at the same time?
Absolutely. So long as you are willing and you have sufficient desire, then personalised, blended scripts, can be tailor-made to your specific requirements to help you achieve your desired outcomes.
So, how effective is it if its just in the imagination?
One of the main reasons we have been able to evolve so successfully as a species, is that we are able to harness the power of our imagination to create our future. Although other species may have the capacity to dream, none have the capacity to conceive the future. Our imagination is a very real group of mental abilities that we are able to utilise to bring about very real changes in our lives. By using our imagination we are able to plan and determine what, when and how we are going to achieve our desires.
Can you make me do anything I don't want to do?
Absolutely not. When you're using hypnosis, you are still yourself, so you won't say or do anything that you wouldn't do in the very same situation without hypnosis. You can easily refuse any suggestion that you don't want to accept, and you cannot be made to do anything that goes against your own moral or ethical beliefs. You remain in control at all times. The hypnotherapist merely acts as a guide whilst your subconscious mind sets about doing all the work.
How can I improve my chances for a successful session?
Hypnosis is similar to letting yourself become absorbed in watching a movie. If you allow yourself to just sit back, relax and watch the movie without trying to do reality checks (like saying to yourself 'this is just a movie set' etc) then you are in a sense allowing yourself to become part of the show. So, rather than just watching the show instead you submerge yourself into the show. With hypnosis your chances of success depend on your ability and willingness to go along with the instructions and suggestions that are provided, and really allow yourself to get involved in your own personal mental show.
Is there a chance that I can't be brought back?
Although it is enjoyable being completely relaxed, you can't do much when you are in a trance or in hypnosis. You will always be aware of what's going on around you, and can choose to emerge at any time you wish. In fact, if your hypnotherapist were to leave you alone for any length of time, you would likely emerge yourself simply because you would know you had been left alone. Usually however, your hypnotherapist will emerge you at the completion of a session with some useful and 'feel-good' post hypnotic suggestions.
What if it doesn't work?
If you are fearful or mistrusting then it is likely you will have more difficulty accepting hypnosis. But if your hypnotherapist has done their job, so to speak, they should have been able to help you allay any fears, and you should be eager and willing to experience the wonderful sensation of hypnosis. We all have the ability to use our minds and imagination in ways we are not usually aware of, and some of us have developed these abilities more than others. If you just allow your thoughts to respond freely and naturally to the words and images as your guide, you'll be able to go wherever your mind can take you. Somnambulism is a deep state of hypnosis achieved when you are completely relaxed, both physically and mentally, and where your imagination is responding to suggestions and actively participating in the process.
How do I know if the therapist is suitably qualified?
Most hypnotherapists nowadays have a website, webpage or other means of allowing prospective clients to contact them. Being a professional member of the Australian Hypnotherapists' Association (AHA) ensures the hypnotherapist has a minimum qualification at Diploma level and 850 hours theory and practical experience, as well as meeting all the regulatory requirements - look for the AHA logo on the website!
How much does a hypnosis session cost?
Depending on the complexity of your situation, my fees are between $150 and $190 for the first session, which usually allows for my initial research and approximately two hours face to face. $100 for subsequent sessions.
